Miriam Cates was elected as the MP for Penistone and Stocksbridge in South Yorkshire in 2019. Prior to her election she studied Genetics at Cambridge and then worked as a secondary school science teacher. In Parliament Miriam has spoken regularly on policies that affect children and families, including childcare, family taxation, and the UK’s declining birthrate. She also served on the Education Select Committee between 2022 and 2024. Miriam is the co-chair of the New Social Covenant Unit.
